What commissions do not buy
This is the part that matters most, so we will be blunt about it.
- Commission rates do not affect our rankings. A product that pays us more does not move up the list. Products are ordered by how they score against the criteria we publish on each roundup.
- Brands cannot pay to be included, excluded, or rewritten. We do not sell placements, and we do not accept payment in exchange for a favorable review.
- We recommend products that pay us nothing when they are the better answer, including products sold only by retailers we have no relationship with.
- We publish criticism. Every roundup names who a product is wrong for, not only who it suits.
How we reach a recommendation
Our recommendations come from research and comparison: manufacturer specifications, published standards and certifications, documentation, warranty terms, and patterns across owner feedback over time. Where we score products, the criteria and their weighting are published so you can judge whether our priorities match yours.
